    Notes: Es wurde festgestellt, daß die Autoxydation des Tricyclohexylbleis auch in Lösung nur bei geeigneter Belichtung vor sich geht. Die hiernach erforderliche Aktivierung R3Pb → R3Pb* findet durch Na-Licht nicht statt. Die Kurve der Lichtabsorption des (C6H11)3Pb enthält weder im Sichtbaren noch im Ultraviolett charakteristische Absorptionsmaxima. Dem Gesamtverlauf der Autoxydation entspricht quantitativ praktisch die Formulierung Anstatt eines Peroxydes konnte nur (C6H11)3PbOPb (C6H11)3, das in gleicher Weise weiter reagierte, als Zwischenprodukt gefaßt werden.

    Description / Table of Contents: A Study of Wear Resistant Nickel-Boron-Silicon Coating AlloysNickel-Boron-Silicon alloy powders are used for wear and corrosion resistant coatings. Immediately after powder deposit on carbon or stainless steels these coatings should possess their final qualities. But there is a strong dependance of the properties on the thermodynamic equilibrium and on the volumetric relation of the Nickel solid solution to the enclosed hard phases. Therefore it is necessary to know the formation of the phases according to the equilibrium temperature and the fluid miscibility with the base material during coating process.
    Notes: Nickel-Bor-Silizium-Legierungspulver werden als Oberflächenbeschichtungsmaterialien zum Verschleiß- und Korrosionsschutz verarbeitet. Sie sollen nach dem Aufbringen auf Eisenbasiswerkstoffe bereits ihre Gebrauchseigenschaften besitzen, die jedoch stark vom thermodynamischen Gleichgewichtszustand und damit von dem volumenmäßigen Verhältnis der Nickelmatrix zu den eingelagerten Hart-phasen bestimmt werden. Zur Abschätzung der Gebrauchseigenschaften ist es deshalb nötig, die Phasenverhältnisse in Abhängigkeit der Gleichgewichtstemperatur und der Aufmischung mit dem jeweiligen Grundwerkstoff zu kennen.

    Notes: An excimer pumped dye laser generating ultra-short (560 fs full width at half maximum, FWHM) pulses in the ultraviolet (UV, 248 nm) and visible (496 nm) spectral ranges is used to desorb protein ions from different matrices. The effects of laser-light energy and power density on secondary-ion yields from insulin are reported. These data are compared to data obtained by employing a nitrogen laser (337 nm, 3 ns FWHM). The existence of a threshold energy density for the matrix-asisted laser desorbtion (MALD) of insulin ions by the ultra-short pulses is established. This threshold energy is of the same order of magnitude for the two laser systems employed and does not depend on the laser pulse length (the energy deposition time). Thus we demonstrate that the amount of laser energy deposited into the sample, rather than the laser power, is the important parameter in the MALD process.

    Notes: In order to study the tensile properties of solvolysis lignin polyurethanes, polyurethane (PU) films were prepared from the solvolysis lignin (SL)-polyethylene glycol (PEG)-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) system, and in addition to this further PU films were also prepared from the SL-MDI system. In the SL-PEG-MDI system, the SL content, the molecular weight of PEG and the NCO:OH ratio were varied in order to control the physical properties. The tensile stress and Young's modulus of the PUs of the SL-PEG-MDI type increased with increasing SL content and NCO:OH ratio. The tensile properties of the PUs from the SL-MDI system showed no NCO:OH ratio dependency; i.e. the mechanical properties of PUs are not influenced by the change in crosslinking. It is possible to control the tensile properties of PUs of the SL-PEG-MDI type by changing the content of PEG and SL at a constant NCO:OH ratio.

    Notes: Polyurethane (PU) films were prepared by solution casting using a three-component system consisting of a low molecular weight fraction of softwood kraft lignin (KL), polyethylene glycol (PEG) of various molecular weights, and crude diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) as starting materials. All films were prepared using a constant NCO/OH ratio. The effects of KL content, PEG content, and molecular weight of PEG on the tensile, thermal, and swelling properties of the PUs were studied. The results showed that the crosslink density Tg and tensile properties were essentially unaffected by variations in the sequence length of the soft segment at a given PEG content. The properties of the PUs were found to depend mainly on the soft/hard segment ratio. The behavior of the glass transition temperature upon changes in the PU composition indicated that the soft and hard segments were extensively mixed.

    Notes: Subtilisin Carlsberg adsorbed on silica particles has been used to catalyze the transesterification of CBZ-Ala-ONp and CBZ-Leu-ONp with 1-butanol in organic systems preequilibrated to water activity of 0.93. Initial reaction rates are conveniently followed by extraction of the released nitrophenol into an alkaline aqueous phase. Kinetic parameters were determined for varied ester concentrations in toluene, isopropyl ether, and hexane. The effect of solvent on substrate solvation was determined by solubility measurements. Much of the observed effect of solvent on Vm/Km may be accounted for by solvation differences. The residual effect of solvent on Km, after discounting solvation differences, is completely opposite to the apparent trend. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

    Description / Table of Contents: Die Synthese von gestrecktkettigen Kristallen aus Copolymeren des Trioxans mit 1,3-Dioxolan, 1,3-Dioxan, 1,3-Dioxepan und 1,3,6-Trioxocan durch kationische Copolymerisation wird beschrieben. Dichte, Schmelzpunkt und Schmelzenthalpie in Abhängigkeit vom Molenbruch x2 der Comonomereinheiten werden angegeben. In jeder Serie von Copolymeren nimmt die Dichte und die Schmelzenthalpie mit zunehmendem Monomergehalt für x2 〈 0,1 linear ab. Der Schmelzpunkt Tm nimmt zunächst mit zunehmendem x2 linear ab, erreicht dann jedoch ein Plateau, in dessen Bereich Tm unabhängig von der Zusammensetzung ist. Die Daten werden im Sinne der Theorie von Eby ausgewertet, die das Schmelzen von Copolymerkristallen beschreibt. Die Defektenthalpien bezogen auf die einzelnen Comonomereinheiten werden angegeben.
    Notes: The synthesis of extended chain crystals of copolymers of trioxane and 1,3-dioxolane, 1,3-dioxane, 1,3-dioxepane, and 1,3,6-trioxocane by cationic copolymerization is described. Density, melting point, and enthalpy of melting are reported as depending on the mole fraction x2 of the comonomer units. In each series the density decreases linearly with increasing comonomer content for x2 〈 0,1. The melting temperature Tm decreases first linearly with increasing x2, but reaches a plateau in which Tm becomes independent of the composition. The data are analysed in terms of Eby's theory of melting behaviour, and defect enthalpies related to the individual comonomer units are derived.

Die niedermolekulare Fraktion besteht aus cyclischen Oligomeren, von der hochmolekularen Fraktion nimmt man an, daß es sich um lineare Polymere handelt. Die Verteilung der cyclischen Oligomeren zusammen mit der Polymerfraktion deutet auf ein Ring-Kettengleichgewicht hin. Die Steigung der Auftragung log Kx(molare Cyclisierungsgleichgewichtskonstante) gegen log x (Polymerisationsgrad) liegt nahe bei -2,5, wie von Jacobson und Stockmayer für ungespannte Ringe vorausgesagt wurde.
    Notes: Polyoctenylenes and polydodecenylenes prepared by the methathesis reaction exhibit a bimodal molecular weight distribution. The low molecular weight fraction consists of cyclic oligomers, the high molecular weight fraction is assumed to contain linear polymers. The distribution of cyclic oligomers together with the polymer material indicates a ring-chain equilibrium. The slope of the plot log Kx (molar cyclization equilibrium constant) vs. log x (degree of polymerization) is close to -2,5 as predicted by the Jacobson and Stockmayer theory for unstrained macrocycles.
