Description / Table of Contents:
On the behavior of materials upon hydrogen fluoride and hydrofluoric acidNumerous papers, published within the previous five years, and industrial experience allow to draw a picture of our knowledge of the behavior of materials upon hydrogen fluoride and hydrofluoric acid. Not alloyed steels, nickel, coper, silver and lead are resistent to hydrofluoric acids of moderate concentrations. Ingot steel is resistent even to acids of more than 65 pct. Aluminum and titanium are deteriorated by hydrofluoric acids of all concentrations though they are more or less resistent to dry hydrogen fluoride just like the metals, first mentioned, except lead. Except of the silica cements all acid proof cements and especially the plastic cements with carbon filling could be used in hydrofluoric acid engineering. Natural and synthetic rubber are materials qualified to build hydrofluoric acid containers of. Plastics like pvc, polythylene, polyfluorethylene and some more are qualified to be used in presence of hydrofluoric acid of less than 50 pct. at moderate temperatures.
Notes:
