Polymetalated Carbon, 2. μ3-Vinylidene- and μ3-Methylidyne Carbonyl Iron Complexes via Transmetalation of 1-Metalla-1,3-dienesThe metalladiene (CO)5Cr=C(NH-c-C6H11)C(OCH3) = CH2 (1) reacts with Fe2(CO)9 to give the trinuclear iron clusters 3 - 6 by transmetalation of the vinylcarbene ligand. 3 and 4 are presumably derived from the same precursor 2. 3 contains the unchanged vinyl ligand, which is protected from further reaction by complexation of the nitrogen atom. The hydrido cluster 4 is an isolated intermediate on the route to the HFe3-methylidyne cluster 5. It is formed from 2 by oxidative addition of the =CH bond to a third metal. In the presence of Fe2(CO)9, 4 rearranges to give 5, which is the final product of the transmetalation reaction. 5 is stable in solution, but in the presence of air decomposes to give the μ3-vinylidene complex 6. The structures of 3 and 6 were determined by crystal structure analyses.
Notes:
