Abstract Micro-Raman spectra were collected from an MS (maximum strength) grade Mg–PSZ sample. Both the Mg–PSZ sample and the laser polarization were rotated and the resulting spectra examined. Quantitative analyses of these spectra showed significant variation arising from the effect of grain orientation with respect to the laser polarization direction. The minimum collection volume necessary for reproducible spectra was assessed.
