Summary The arterio-coronarvenous differences of total amino acids, glutamate, glutamine, and ammonia were tested with athletes and the results were compared to those of normal persons. 1. During rest, physical work and recovery the total concentration of amino acids in the coronarvenous blood is significantly higher than in the arterial blood. The reasons of these unexpected data will be discussed. 2. The heart extracts continuously glutamate from the arterial blood and delivers glutamine to the coronarsinous blood. The glutamine delivery is less with athletes. So the athlete is saving energy in the way as it is required for the glutamine formation. 3. A higher delivery by the cardiac muscle is observed with normal persons which can be considered as a smaller dis- and transamining process with athletes. 4. There is no indication that the amino acids are important for energy supplying reactions of the human heart.
Notes:
