    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Vom 1.1.1972 bis 31.12.1979 führten wir 405 Carotis TEA's bei 301 Patienten durch. 122 Patienten befanden sich im asymptomatischen Stadium. Die Operationsletalität im Stadium I betrug 0,0 %, die Operationsmorbidität 2,4 %. Zum Zeitpunkt der Nachuntersuchung waren 21,6 % verstorben, von 11 Patienten war der weitere Verlauf nicht bekannt. von den 87 im Stadium I nachuntersuchten Patienten waren 94,3 weiterhin asymptomatisch, 5,7 % wiesen ein neurologisches Defizit auf.
    Notes: Summary From January 1, 1972 to December 31, 1979, 405 carotid endarterectomies were performed on 301 patients: 122 patients had an asymptomatic lesion; operative mortality was 0 and morbidity was 2.4%. At follow-up examination, 21.6 % of the patients had died, and the postoperative fate of 11 more was unknown. Among the 87 remaining patients, 94.3 % were still asymptomatic, but 5.7 % showed neurologic deficits.
