Notes: Summary In contrast to observations in rat and guinea pig it has been found that in early human intrauterine development microsomal fractions of the whole embryo as well as of embryonal liver show activity of N-demethylases. The carcinogen dimethylnitrosamine was taken as substrate. Since it is known that the presence of such an enzymatic system is necessary for the activation of nitrosamines, it seems possible that in man prenatal carcinogenesis by these substances is possible already in his early prenatal phases.
