Summary A modification of the thermodilution method for the determination of the enddiastolic, endsystolic and stroke volume of the human heart is described. Advantages and disadvantages of the method are discussed and compared with those of other dilution methods. Limits and possible errors are discussed. The criteria for reliable wash out curves are defined. It has been shown to be a useful quantitative method for estimating ventricular volumes.

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Modifikation der Thermoinjektionsmethode zur Bestimmung des enddiastolischen, des endsystolischen und des Schlagvolumens beim Menschen beschrieben. Die Vor- und Nachteile der Methode werden besprochen. Auf die Grenzen und Fehlermöglichkeiten der Volumenbestimmung durch Indicatorverfahren wird hingewiesen. Die Forderungen, die an eine auswertbare Auswaschkurve gestellt werden müssen, werden aufgezählt.
