Description / Table of Contents:
Summary Vinylidene chloride (VDC=M 1-vinylacetate (VAC=M 2)-copolymers of different composition are polymerised at 50 °C, and investigated by NMR. Lines of diads, triads, tetrads and hexads can be observed in the NMR spectra. Concentrations of monomer units, and of diads, triads, and tetrads in the copolymer as well as the mean lengths of the sequences are determined from the line intensities. All experimental results can be described by two parametersr 1=5,0 andr 2=0,05 using the theory of copolymerisation. Small deviations occur with the concentrations of triads and tetrads only. These deviations have the same trend as the deviations observed in the investigation of VDC-isobutylene-copolymers (3), yet being smaller. They may result from the fact, that the possible dependence of a single step of polymerisation on the preceding steps is not considered in these calculations.
Notes:
