Notes:
Neonatal jaundice (15 mg. or more of total bilirubin per 100 ml.) occurred in 2687 out of 22 122 babies in Hong Kong (12·1 per cent). Jaundice was significantly more common in summer, in first born babies and in male infants. The aetiology of neonatal jaundice in Chinese newborn infants is different from that in western communities.Vacuum extraction was found to predispose to neonatal jaundice even when no obvious cephalhaematoma developed.
