Notes:
In an insecticide experiment on the control of cabbage root fly on summer cauliflowers, 1,524 root systems were scored for root damage by two methods. Similar conclusions about the effectiveness of the treatments could be drawn by using either method, but one detected very low levels of root damage and distinguished between different levels of severe damage. This method was more time-consuming and costly, and could be done over only a short harvesting period. The second method was simpler, cheaper, and could be used over a prolonged harvesting period, but was less sensitive for low, or very high, levels of root damage.
