Notes:
High resolution single ion monitoring and low resolution multiple ion monitoring without the use of an internal standard, were compared as methods for the mass spectrometric measurement of patulin in apple juice extracts. Single ion monitoring was the more sensitive method and reliably measured 0.2 ppb patulin in apple juice while multiple ion monitoring gave a detection limit of 5 ppb and could reliably measure 10 ppb. A perdeuterated analogue of silylated patulin was found to be unsuitable either as an internal standard or as a carrier.
