Particle movement in the core and in the annulus of a semicircular, vertical, spouted bed was examined by high-speed tracer photography. Use of a functional analogy with a free jet establishes an equation correlating core air velocity and relative bed height. Dependence of bed void fraction and particle throughput vs. relative bed height shows good agreement with previous work. Particle mean retention time and air flow distribution in the annulus and the spout were obtained by calcualtional estimates.
