Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
The surface roughness of a metal may be used as a criterion for the determination of the number and the size of microgeometric corrosion elements. It is then possible to asses the corrosion effect (in terms of corrosion current) of such a microgalvanic cell, disregarding the ohmic resistance which amounts just to some per cent of the total resistance (i.e. anodic and cathodic polarizability); for the sake of simplification, the microelements may be assumed to have an idealized shape consisting of parallel cylindrical protuberances and depressions. The calculated results are in reasonable agreement with the experimental data.
