An experimental investigation was undertaken on the thermoplastic elastomer and subambient behaviors of flexible PVC. From cyclic mechanical testing, it was determined that adequate TPE performance can be obtained, especially at low frequencies. Combined with rheology data, a model consistent with crystallite tie points was reaffirmed. The subambient impact toughness was found to be a sigmoidal function of temperature. Very encouraging agreements were obtained between impact toughness and prediction on dissipations based on dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA).
