Durch abgeänderte Bischler-Synthese werden aus 2-Hydroxy-cyclohexanon-(1) und primären aromatischen Aminen Alkoxy- und Hydroxy-tetrahydrocarbazole dargestellt. 4-Amino-2-methoxy-toluol ergibt 7-, nicht 5-Methoxy-6-methyl tetrahydrocarbazol (Xa, nicht XIa). In einzelnen Fällen (z. B. bei 5-ständiger Methylgruppe; vgl. XVIII) gelingt der Ringschluß zum Tetrahydrocarbazol nur mit 2-Chlor-, nicht mit 2-Hydroxy-cyclohexanon. - Bei der Ätherspaltung von 8-Äthoxy-5-methyl-tetrahydrocarbazol (XVIIIb) mit Aluminiumchlorid in Benzol wird das Tetrahydrocarbazolgerüst zusätzlich phenyliert. - 7- und 8-Hydroxy-tetrahydrocarbazole werden von Kalium-nitrosodisulfonat zu Chinonen oxydiert. Als Vertreter eines neuen Indol-o-chinontyps wird das rote 5-Methyl-tetrahydrocarbazol-chinon-(7.8) (XXIII) gewonnen. Auf die Spektren der untersuchten Stoffe wird eingegangen.
