Description / Table of Contents:
The C5H5- ion has been investigated ab initio in the equilibrium distance of the centers, taking all 36 electrons into account, using the Allgemeines Programmsystem/SCF—MO—LC(LCGO) Methode. A total energy of -189.42 a.u. and an ionization energy (electron affinity of C5H5) of 0.9 eV were found. A most significant result is that one π orbital is more strongly binding than four σ orbitals.
