Potassium fluorosulfinate can be prepared in high yield by treating potassium fluoride with a solution of sulfur dioxide in dimethyl sulfoxide or tetramethylene sulfone. Between 100 and 160°C, the decomposition of KSO2F is entirely reversible. From the dissociation pressures the enthalpy and entropy of the formation of potassium fluorosulfinate are estimated (data see above).

Kaliumfluorsulfinat kann auch mit praktisch quantitativer Ausbeute durch Behandeln von Kaliumfluorid mit einer Lösung von Schwefeldioxid in Dimethylsulfoxid oder Tetramethylensulfon dargestellt werden. Im Vakuum stellen sich über der auf diese Weise erhaltenen Verbindung im Temperaturbereich von 100-160° reproduzierbare SO2-Drucke ein, aus welchen sich für die Bildungsenthalpie und -entropie von KSO2F aus KF und SO2 die Werte - 18,3 kcal/Mol und - 38,4 cal/Grad · Mol ergaben.
