Conclusions In the application of a copper-nickel coating onto freshly-spun, slightly oriented polyacrylonitrile fibre, a rigid housing is developed, which represses changes in the electrophysical properties of the fibre. The slight change in specific electrical resistance of the fibre is connected with two factors: a difference in the thermal-relaxation properties of the coating and of the polymer; and partial oxidation of the copper coating by atmospheric oxygen.
