Conclusions Psychiatric neurology is a potentially productive field for program planning, development and research. A study of the resident population of a state mental hospital indicates that approximately one in four or five resident patients suffers from a definite neurological disorder, and that the incidence of neurologic disorders approximates 5 per cent of all admissions. Approximately three-quarters of the neurologic disease is included in five main categories: epilepsy, trauma, syphilis, alcohol, and the pre-senile psychoses. Brain tumor accounts for only approximately 1 per cent of the neurologic admission rate, but there is an appreciable number of patients with relatively rare neurological disorders that might be of particular interest to the neurologistt. It is suggested that considerable progress could be made by developing special services for treatment, training and research in psychiatric neurology.
