Description / Table of Contents: Summary Lymphocyte cultures from patients with M.S. undergo blastoid cell transformation after challenge with encephalitogenic protein (e.p.), immunoglobulin G and, to some degree, with Ig M. The same transformation may be induced by autologous and heterologous cerebrospinal fluid from M.S.-patients. The reaction seems to depend on the content of Ig G in the cerebrospinal fluid. The observed immune response in the lymphocyte cultures suggests a dalayed type hypersensibility reaction in the tissue of M.S.-patients, directed against e.p., Ig G and, to some degree, against Ig M. The pathogenesis of M.S. is not sufficiently understood and still awaits elucidation. The results of further experiments will be published in detail elsewhere.
Notes: Zusammenfassung 1.
