Notes: Summary Histological examination of the bone marrow (iliac crest) in 11 patients with genital carcinoma was carried out. Bone marrow was obtained 3 times by myelotomy, before irradiation and shortly after approximately 1 100 R and 3 000 R respectively (local fractionated gamma irradiation). Two different histologic types of the acute and subacute irradiation damage are noted: The one is characterized by formation of edema and plasma cell infiltration, the other one by lymphoid cell infiltration and sclerosis. Common features of both types are necrosis of the arterial capillaries and venous sinusoids with only minor changes of the arteries and increased osteoblastic and osteoclastic activity of the bone and siderosis.
