Zusammenfassung Die koronare Muskelbrücke, die im unausgelesenen Obduktionsgut mit einer Häufigkeit von etwa 24% gefunden wurde, findet in der Diskussion um die Ursachen des plötzlichen Herztodes und im Rahmen der Bypass-Chirurgie verstärktes Interesse. Anhand von 20 morphometrisch untersuchten Koronararterienästen wird aufgezeigt, daß der koronaren Muskelbrücke eine lokale Schutzfunktion vor atheromatösen bzw. arteriosklerotischen Gefäßwandveränderungen zukommt. Patho-morphologische und funktionelle Auswirkungen der koronaren Muskelbrücke werden diskutiert.

Summary The coronary muscle bridge which was found in non-selected autopsy material with a frequency of 24% meets with increasing interest in the discussion on the causes of sudden cardiac death and within the scope of coronary bypass-surgery. Twenty morphometrically examined coronary arteries have been used to demonstrate that the coronary muscle bridge provide local protection from atherosclerosis. Pathomorphological and functional effects of coronary muscle bridges are discussed.
