Zusammenfassung Die licht- und elektronenmikroskopische Untersuchung der geraden äußeren Augenmuskeln bei zwei Patienten mit hereditärer Ophthalmoplegia congenita externa totalis bzw. subtotalis ergibt keine eigenständige Muskelerkrankung. Die nahe dem Ansatz untersuchten Muskelfasern sind dicker als bei Kontrollfällen. Die ungenügende oder aufgehobene Bulbusmotilität muß durch nucleäre oder supranucleäre Innervationsstörungen erklärt werden.

Summary The light and electron microscope examination of the recto externo of two patients with ophthalmoplegia congenital externo total respectively subtotal resulted no independent muscular affection. The examined muscular fibres near the insertion are more voluminous than by the patients for medical control. The dissatified or relieved motility of the bulbus must be explained of nuclear or supranuclear innervation disturbances.
