Notes: Summary Histochemical and biochemical studies have demonstrated the occurrence of sialic acid in the Reissner's fibre of the ox. The content of sialic acid is about 3,2% related to dry substance. It is just possible that by cation-exchange the fibre balances the concentration of biogenic amines in the cerebrospinal fluid.
