Summary The inhibiting effect of LHPO (water soluble lipid hydroperoxide) revealed in animal experiments (carcinolysis test, therapeutic studies), may also be demonstrated in vitro by means of vital staining with trypan blue. Since the uptake of the dye occurs only after adding a reducing agent (5×10−3 molar solution of cystine), it seems that oxidative factors prevent a vital staining with trypan blue by the cells treated with LHPO. Sudan III, a dye which stains only after death of the cell, shows that the cells affected by LHPO still stain supravitally for a long period.

Zusammenfassung Die im Tierversuch (Carcinolysetest und Therapieversuchen) gefundene Hemmwirkung des Präparates LHPO (wasserlösliche Lipidhydroperoxyde) läßt sich mit Hilfe der Vitalfärbung durch Trypanblau auch in vitro einwandfrei nachweisen. Da die Farbstoffspeicherung erst nach Zugabe eines Reduktionsmittels (wir verwendeten eine 5×10−3-molare Cysteinlösung) auftritt, scheint bewiesen, daß oxydative Faktoren in den mit LHPO behandelten Zellen die Trypanblau-Vitalfärbung verhindern. Sudan III, als sicher nur postmortal färbender Farbstoff zeigt, daß die durch LHPO gehemmten Zellen sich noch durch längere Zeit supravital verhalten.
