Description / Table of Contents: Summary A case of brain abscess following the use of Crutchfield Tong is described. The cause was the absence of shoulder mouldings on the pins of the tongs, so that the pin could penetrate the full thickness of the skull and also the dura mater. A pronounced shoulder moulding on the skull pins of the tongs is prerequisite to their use, as is the position of the burrhole in the parietal region and not—as is often employed—in the thinner squamous temporal bone.
