Summary The growth of Coxiella burneti was studied electronmicroscopically in ultrathin sections of infected testicular tissue of guinea pigs. According to structure and binary fission of the microorganisms a development cycle from dense homogeneous membrane-bound bodies containing a single Coxiella to vacuoling inclusions and giant vacuolated cells was observed.

Zusammenfassung Es wird über elektronenoptische Untersuchungen an Coxiella burnetiinfiziertem Hodengewebe des Meerschweinchens berichtet. Unter Beachtung von Struktur und Zweiteilung wird ein Entwicklungszyklus beschrieben, der von elektronendichten, homogenen, membrangebundenen Gebilden mit einem Coxiellenanschnitt über vakuoläre Einschlüsse bis zur riesigen Vakuolenzelle führt.
