Abstract The present paper is a trial to limit the coordination sphere and hence the coordination number of atoms in alloys. This study shows that the average weighted coordination number of binary alloys as a whole lies in between those of the component atoms. This result seems to be encouraging. The coordination numbers of different atoms in the known 26 binary alloys of vanadium are determined using two different methods, compared and discussed.
