Extended twinning bands with their walls oriented parallel to the c axis of layered GeSe crystals seem to influence considerably the electrical conductivity of this material at low temperatures. The ratio σ(parallel)/σ⊥ of the conductivities on the layer plane measured parallel and normal to the twinning bands is thermally activated. This behavior leads to a value for the barrier height h of 18 meV. On the other hand, ac measurements in the same directions clearly show that the conductivity anisotropy vanishes at higher frequencies, thus permitting a rough estimation of the effective thickness of the walls.
