Summary. Testing of factor levels is desirable for a number of reasons, including diagnosis of the level of severity of the disease, and the efficacy of factor-replacement therapy. The older methods comprised the one-stage, two-stage, and chromogenic methods, and newer methods, including the thrombin generation test, are now available. This paper outlines the use of these methods and problems associated with them.
