Notes: Abstract The thiadiazinone derivative [+]-EMD 60263 ((+)-5-(1-(α-ethylimino-3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)-1,2,3,4- tetrahydroquinoline-6-yl)-6-methyl-3,6-dihydro-2H-1,3,4 -thiadiazine-2-on) is a Ca2+-sensitizing agent with only minor phosphodiesterase inhibitory activity. Our aim was to characterize the inotropic and electrophysiological effects of [+]-EMD 60263 and its enantiomer [-]-EMD 60264 in several cardiac muscle preparations. The Ca2+-sensitizing activity resided in the [+]-enantiomer only. [+]-EMD 60263 (3 µM) shifted the EC50 of Ca2+ for contractile activation of skinned fibers of pig heart from 2.41 µM to 0.73 µM, whereas [-]-EMD 60264 (30 µM) was ineffective. In Langendorff-perfused guinea pig hearts, [+]-EMD 60263 and [-]-EMD 60264 induced concentration-dependent positive and negative inotropic effects, respectively; both enantiomers reduced spontaneous heart rate but did not influence perfusion pressure. The maximum increase in force of human atrial trabeculae was 35 % of pre-drug control with [+]-EMD 60263 in comparison to 113 % with forskolin. In guinea-pig papillary muscles, [+]-EMD 60263 and [-]-EMD 60264 had opposite inotropic responses, however, both agents similarly prolonged action potential duration. Both enantiomers concentration-dependently blocked the rapidly activating component IKr of the delayed rectifier in guinea-pig myocytes. The block saturated at potentials positive to +30 mV, closely resembling the effects of the antiarrhythmic agent E-4031 which had been originally used to define IKr. It is concluded, that the positive inotropic action of [+]-EMD 60263 can be explained by prevalence of the Ca2+-sensitizing effect. The accompanying prolongation in action potential duration is caused by block of the IKr component of the delayed rectifier. While the inotropic effects are stereoselective, most of the electrophysiological actions are clearly independent of sterical configuration. The combination of Ca2+-sensitizing with class-III antiarrhythmic action may provide an interesting pharmacological profile of potential therapeutic use.

Notes: Summary.  The complete nucleotide sequence and the predicted amino acid sequence of the adenovirus type 7 hexon gene were determined. The hydro-pathy of the hexon proteins from human adenovirus types 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 16, 40, 41, and 48, bovine adenovirus type 3, murine adenovirus type 1, and avian adenovirus types 1 and 10 was analysed. The presence of purines and pyrimid-ines in the second position of the codons was correlated to hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity, respectively. Comparison of the hydrophilicity plots of eight hexons showed seven hypervariable regions to be distributed on the surface. A large portion of the hypervariable regions manifests hydrophilicity. The strength of the surface charge accumulated on the hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions correlated to the tissue tropism of the different adenovirus types. Analysis of codon usage for adenovirus hexons showed that among synony-mous codons those with cytidine in the third position were preferably used to a great extent. Analysis of the nucleotide and amino acid sequence pair distances and the phylogenetic tree of 14 hexon proteins showed members of subgenera B, D and E to be closely related, especially Ad4 and Ad16, and subgenus A to be closely related to subgenus F.

In the crystal structure of (1) the tetra-n-butylammonium ions are sandwiched between puckered layers, which are constructed from thiourea-hydrogen oxalate ribbons. In the crystal structure of (2), zigzag O--H...O and C--H...O hydrogen-bonded hydrogen fumarate ribbons are linked by thiourea dimers to form a wide puckered ribbon and the crystal structure is built of a packing of these thiourea–anion composite ribbons and the cationic columns. In the layer-type crystal structure of (3) a series of thiourea–fumarate layers match the (002) planes and the (C2H5)4N+ cations occupy the intervening space. In the crystal structure of (4) the thiourea, hydrogen fumarate ions and water molecules are connected by hydrogen bonds to form wide puckered ribbons, which are crosslinked to generate a three-dimensional host framework containing open channels aligned parallel to the a axis, with the tetra-n-propylammonium cations accommodated in a single column within each channel.

In the crystal structure of (1) the parallel alternate arrangement of selenourea–chloride ribbons and selenourea chains generates a puckered layer and the cations are sandwiched between them. In the isomorphous complexes (2) and (3) wide selenourea–halide double ribbons are crosslinked by bridging selenourea molecules via N—H...Se and N—H...X hydrogen bonds [average N...Se = 3.521 (8) and 3.527 (7), N...Cl = 3.354 (8) and N...Br = 3.500 (7) Å in (2) and (3), respectively] to form a channel-like three-dimensional network and the cations are accommodated in a single column within each channel. In the crystal structure of (4) the selenourea molecules are joined in the shoulder-to-shoulder fashion via N—H...Se hydrogen bonds [N...Se = 3.529 (7) and 3.534 (7) Å] to generate a ribbon and each selenourea molecule also forms a pair of chelating N—H...I hydrogen bonds [N...I = 3.567 (7) and 3.652 (7) Å] to an adjacent iodide ion.

Notes: Abstract It has been experimentally researched that convective heat transfer and pressure loss characteristics in rectangular channels with staggered arrays of drop-shaped pin fins in crossflow of air. The effects of arrangements of pin fins on heat transfer and resistance are discussed and the row-by-row variations of the mean Nusselt numbers are presented. By means of the heat/mass transfer analogy and the naphthalene sublimation technique, the heat transfer coefficients on pin fins and on endwall (base plate) of the channel have been achieved respectively. The total mean heat transfer coefficients of pin fin channels are calculated and the resistance coefficients are also investigated. The experimental results show that heat transfer of a channel with drop-shaped pin fins is higher than that with circular pin fins while the resistance of the former is much lower than that of the latter in the Reynolds number range from 900 to 9000.

Notes: Abstract Mesoporous Al-MCM-41 materials of different Si/Al ratios have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, 27Al and 29Si MAS NMR, differential thermogravimetric analysis, N2 adsorption measurements, FT-IR and catalytic cracking of alkanes. The experimental results show that the incorporation of aluminium into the framework of MCM-41 has a great effect on the degree of long-distance order, the surface acidities and the mesoporous structures of the materials. With increase of the aluminium content, the amounts of tetrahedral framework aluminium and the acid sites on the samples increase, but the acid strength decreases. Al-MCM-41 materials exhibit high activity for n-C16 0 cracking and good selectivity for producing low carbon alkylenes, particularly for i-C4 =.

Notes: Abstract Ti–25Al–10Nb–3V–1Mo alloy has been prepared by gas atomization with atomizing pressure above 8 MPa. The cooling rate of 5×103∼3×105 K s-1 was obtained according to secondary dendritic arm spacing, as the particle size is 30∼300 μm. It is known that in the big particles two dendrite morphologies can be found, cellular dendrite and well-developed dendrite, and in small particles there exists only well-developed dendrite. The surface of particles is characteristic of solidification that is identical to the observation on the cross-sectional views. The micrographs of cross-sectional views show that the big particles, whether of cellular dendrite or well-developed dendrite, solidify by multiple nucleation events while the small particles of well-developed dendrite solidify from a single nucleation event. The microstructure of the alloy consists of single β0 phase.
