Notes: Abstract The ratio of the longitudinal polarization values of90Y and32P was measured at two energies by the method of Møller scattering. The results obtained areP(90Y)/P(32P)=0.992±0.036 at 0.725 MeV electron energy andP(90Y)/P(32P)=0.984±0.030 at 1.0 MeV. For the decay of90Y, polarization- and spectrum shape measurements are discussed in the framework of a formfactor coefficient analysis.

Notes: Abstract Measured differential cross sections for the scattering of 104 MeV α particles from20Ne and28Si are analyzed on the basis of a deformed folding model. Rms-radii and values of the deformation parameters for the nuclear density distributions are extracted, and the effect of the size of the α particle is demonstrated. Previous discrepancies between (p,p′) and (α, α′) results are partly removed.

Notes: Abstract Differential cross sections for elastic and inelastic scattering of 104 MeVα-particles from204,206,208Pb were measured with high angular accuracy. The experimental results were analysed on the basis of a semimicroscopic folding model in order to determine the matter distributions at the nuclear surface and the transition densities. Using phenomenological parametrizations of the densities the analyses of elastic scattering yield rms radii of 〈r 2〉1/2=5.55±0.06 (204Pb), 5.57±0.06 (206Pb), 5.63±0.05 (208Pb) fm. Various sensitivities affecting the results were studied. From the inelastic cross sections for the 3 1 − -states octupole transition probabilities and transition radii were derived by using different methods proposed in literature.

Notes: Abstract The real parts of the optical model potentials for 104 MeV alpha-particle and 156 MeV6Li ion scattering from40, 48Ca are calculated in terms of folding model approaches. The validity of different procedures is tested by comparing the differential cross section predictions with experimental data measured with high angular accuracy. It is found that a refined folding potential accounting for density dependence of an effective nucleon-nucleon interaction is appropriate for alpha particle scattering without any parameter adjustment. However, for6Li ion scattering renormalization of the depth of the real potential is necessary.

Notes: Abstract Isotope shifts and hyperfine structure of the BaI resonance-line (λ=553.6 nm) have been measured by dye laser induced resonance fluorescence on an atomic beam for135m, 129g, 129m, 126Ba thus extending previous high resolution measurements of neutron deficient Ba nuclides (N〈82). The experimental results, now available for 16Ba isotopes and isomers withA=140−126, are used to deduce differences of rms charge radii, magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments. While the groundstates display a pronounced odd-even staggering the h 11/2− isomers135mBa and133mBa show a decreased staggering. Conspicuously the isomer shift of theg 7/2+ isomer129m Ba proves to be negative. The nuclear structure information is discussed in the context of gammaspectroscopic studies of transitional nuclei with 50〈N,Z〈82 and on the basis of a quasi-particle-plus-triaxial rotor model. The isotope shift discrepancy observed is fairly well described by the droplet model.

Notes: Abstract Differential cross sections are measured for the elastic and inelastic scattering of 104 MeV α-particles from58, 60, 62, 64Ni. The experimental results are analyzed in terms of coupled channels on the basis of an anharmonic vibrational model and prove to be quite sensitive to the values of the deformation parameters. For forward angles the 4+ angular distributions of58,60Ni are dominated by aL=4 single excitation mechanism. This is in keeping with theE4-transitions observed in (e, e′) scattering. From the 2 1 + - and 3 1 + -results transition rates are derived which can be compared to results of electromagnetic methods and of inelastic proton scattering studies. The comparison indicates that the transition rates differ and are generally higher for the proton scattering. Especially in the case of the 3− states of58,60Ni the differences are obvious. The elastic cross sections are analyzed both on the basis of the usual phenomeno-logical model and in terms of a semimicroscopic folding model resulting in values of rms-radii for the nuclear matter distribution.

Notes: Abstract Collective potential energy surfaces were determined in the mass region with 50〈(N, Z)〈82 by fitting experimental level spectra andB(E 2)-values on the basis of the generalized collective model of Gneuss and Greiner. While the nuclides withN=80 and withZ=52 are rather soft vibrators we find an abrupt transition to asymmetric rotators forN=78 and forZ=54 tending to more symmetric shapes further away from the closed shells. The results predict the position of levels not yet observed andB(E 2)-values.

Notes: Abstract A numerical method is proposed for determining nuclear matrix elements from beta decay measurements. The method is based on the least squares principle, and its main application is the analysis of beta ray spectra. Its main result is to show that a spectrum shape measurement usually determines only a second order polynomial of the matrix elements to a high precision whereas each of the matrix elements can vary within wide limits. The method is applied to the first forbidden non unique transitions (1−→ 0+) of170Tm,186Re and210Bi (RaE). The 3 contributing matrix elements and their ranges of error are determined from recent measurements.

Notes: Abstract Excitation functions of the compound nuclear reactions191+193Ir,197Au(6Li,xn+yp) forx =3–13 andy=0–2 have been investigated by means of in-beamγ-ray spectroscopy at the 156 MeV6Li beam of the Karlsruhe Isochronous Cyclotron. The beam energy has been varied in the range of 48 to 156 MeV in steps of about 10 MeV by Be-absorber foils in the external beam line. Absolute cross sections have been determined by normalizing the measuredγ-ray intensities to the production cross sections ofK- X-rays in the target. The experimental excitation functions are discussed on the basis of predictions of the preequilibrium (hybrid) model. While in most cases the theoretical calculations fairly well reproduce energy position and shapes of the curves, strong discrepancies in the absolute scale of the cross sections are observed. The theoretical predictions overestimate the (6Li,xn) cross sections by a factor of about 6. Conspicuous anomalies have been detected when comparing the (6Li, xn+1(2)p) reactions with (6Li,xn) reactions. The reactions with emission of one or two protons are considerably enhanced. The discrepancies and anomalies observed are tentatively explained by the influence of direct reaction channels as the6Li break-up, which experimentally proved to be the dominant contribution to the total reaction cross section. The enhancement of the reactions with emission of protons may be a consequence of transfer reactions into highly excited states combined with compound nucleus formation thus implying a cluster effect in preequilibrium emission process.

Notes: Abstract Excited levels of143Eu have been investigated by nuclear spectroscopy methods. We measured γ-rays and conversion electron singles spectra as well asγγ-coincidences from mass separated143mGd sources (108 s) prepared after the irradiation of144Sm with 78 MeVα-particles. In addition in-beam data were obtained by measuringγ-ray singles spectra, angular distributions andγγ-coincidences, following the144Sm(α, 4n+ p, γ) reaction. A level scheme for143Eu comprising 19 levels is proposed, spin assignments or at least restrictions are given. The deduced experimental level scheme can be reproduced semiquantitatively by a generalized decoupling model which takes into account an asymmetric deformation of the core and a variable moment of inertia. Additionally, the results are discussed in the limit of the weak coupling model.
