    Notizen: Summary Fifteen xenograft tumour lines (4 osteosarcomas and 11 squamous carcinomas) were established on nude mice in numerous passages. Over a period of 4 years, samples were taken and studied systematically in more than 4000 histological slides. Of the tumour lines, 12 (4 osteosarcomas and 8 squamous carcinomas) showed remarkable dedifferentiation, but also redifferentiation towards a higher grade. There was a correlation between the rate of tumour takes in mice and poor prognosis in patients, but none between tumour doubling time and the phases of the cell cycle. Altogether, the results showed a great heterogeneity of human xenotransplants in terms of biological behaviour and morphological changes.

    Notizen: Abstract Excited states in the doubly-odd nucleus82Rb have been investigated via the reactions79Br(α,n) and78Se(7Li,3n) using in-beamγ-ray spectroscopy. The level energy of the longlived 5− isomer has been determined to 68.3 keV which is below the energy of the 2− state found at 88.9 keV with a lifetime ofΤ=2.4(2) ns. A sequence of positive-parity states beginning with a 6+ level at 191.3 keV (Τ=20(3) ns) and extending to a (10+) level has been interpreted to contain the two-particle configuration (πg 9/2⊗Ν 9/2) and collective excitations.

    Notizen: Abstract Strongly damped collisions were studied in uranium induced reactions on110Pd and124Sn target nuclei near the barrier. The excitation-energy splitting was deduced from binary reaction yields and those in which the heavy fragment undergoes sequential fission. For systems with 87≦Z≦95 for the heavy fragment, the excitation energy is concentrated in the lighter nucleus, at best shared equally. The results indicate a non-equilibrated energy dissipation, and support nucleon exchange based on average single-particle strength functions as the underlying dissipation mechanism at the barrier.

    Notizen: Abstract In order to describe the thermodynamic behavior of methane, argon, and nitrogen in the so-called “natural-gas region,” namely, from 270 to 350 K at pressures up to 30 MPa as accurate as possible with equations of a very simple form, new equations of state for these three substances have been developed. These equations are in the form of a fundamental equation in the dimensionless Helmholtz energy; for calculating the pressure or the density, the corresponding equations explicit in pressure are also given. The residual parts of the Helmholtz function representing the behavior of the real gas contain 12 fitted coefficients for methane, 8 for argon, and 7 for nitrogen. The thermodynamic relations between the Helmholtz energy and the most important thermodynamic properties and the needed derivatives of the equations are explicitly given; to assist the user there is also a table with values for computer-program verification. The uncertainties when calculating the density ρ, the speed of sound w, the isobaric specific heat capacity c p, and the isochoric specific heat capacity c v are estimated as follows. For all three substances it is Δρ/ρ≤±0.02 % for p≤ 12 MPa and Δρ/ρ ≤ ±0.05% for higher pressures. For methane it is Δw/w≤±0.02% for p≤10 MPa and Δw/w≤+-0.1% for higher pressures; for argon it is Δw/w≲-0.1 % for p≤ 7 MPa, Δw/w≤±0.3 % for 7 〈p≤30 MPa; and for nitrogen it is Δw/w≤±0.1% for p≤1.5 MPa and Δw/w±0.5% for higher pressures. For all three substances it is Δc p/c p≤±1 % and ΔC v/C v≤±1 % in the entire range.

    Notizen: Hydrogen and hydrogen-containing species (H2O, OH etc.) play a dominant role in the various properties of glass surfaces and technical oxidic thin films deposited on glass. The amount of hydrogen and its distribution with depth are influenced by preparation and production processes, film materials, density and voids, etc. The 15N nuclear reaction technique, which works quantitatively and non-destructively, was used to investigate glass surfaces and thin films of TiO2, Ta2O5 and SiO2 produced by sol-gel processes, reactive evaporation, sputtering and ion plating on glass substrates. An increase or decrease in hydrogen content influences optical and mechanical properties such as the refractive index and adhesion of the films.

The H content of individual oxidic materials was found to be larger than for single films, especially for SiO2. The time-dependent H uptake under various ambient conditions was investigated. Systems produced by ion plating were also profiled for hydrogen.
