Description / Table of Contents:
The rates of formation of the 12:1 molybdatosilicic acid from silicates having different constitutions have been determined. From mono-, di- and tetrameta-silicates, the heteropolyacid is formed by a first-order reaction with rate constants of kmono = 1.7, kdi = 0.90 and ktetrameta = 0.67 min-1, respectively. Higher-condensed silicates are partially degraded on dissolving; their highest-molecular constituents, however, react also according to a first-order law, with rate constants depending on the Na2O:SiO2 ratio, i. e. the degrees of condensation. According to their reaction velocities, the Ca2SiO4 γ-hydrates (C I and C II hydrate) contain both mono- and dimeric anions, whereas high-molecular chain-like anions are indicated for Ca2SiO4-β-(B)-hydrate and a Mg-silicate-hydrate.
Notes:
