Abstract Measurements of the temperature dependance of ionic conductivity on sodium azide single crystals are described. Furthermore, Mn++-doped preparations have been investigated as pellets. The potential barrier for ionic migration was found to be independent of axis orientation in the crystal. The differences are due to the preexponential factors. In the low-temperature part, the pellets are showing an increase of the preexponential factor with increasing amounts of Mn. From the activation energies of both the high- and low-temperature conduction an energy of defect-formation of 1.9 eV or 44 kcal per mole, resp., is obtained. Therefore, aSchottky disorder is assumed for NaN3. Furthermore, from theNernst-Einstein relation the diffusion behaviour in sodium azide can be explained.
Notes:
