Notes: Using the continuous wave electron beam of the new Darmstadt superconducting electron accelerator and high intensity axial channeling in a diamond crystal, the possibility for the production of an intense tunable photon source in the x-ray region is investigated. Due to low emittance of the machine and its high current it has become possible, for the first time, to produce channeling radiation in the energy region of a few keV with an intensity of up to 2×1010 photons/s in an x-ray energy window of 10%. This is six orders of magnitude more than what has been observed previously.

Notes: Abstract We have investigated the continuous particle spectra following the beta decay of the neutron-rich nuclei that terminate the mass 6, 8, 9 and 11 isobaric chains. Strong beta transitions feeding the very top of the spectrum are found systematically. The favoured states are within a few MeV of the energy of the initial state. This phenomenon seems to be linked to the occurrence of a di-neutron structure or neutron halo in the drip-line nuclei.

Notes: Abstract A preterm infant with severe hyaline membrane disease requiring extreme mechanical ventilation developed pulmonary air leaks with consecutive shock. The chest roentgenogram showed bilateral pulmonary interstitial emphysema and gas within the heart silhouette as well as in the hepatic veins, inferior v.cava, portal vein, and many abdominal vessels. The respiratory and circulatory failure by massive systemic gas embolism resulted in death.

Notes: Abstract To determine the impact of α-tomatine at the third trophic level, the following model was developed:Nomuraea rileyi (Farlow) Samson, the secondary consumer, acting onHeliothis zea (Boddie), the primary consumer, fed an artificial diet modified with α-tomatine. In vitro, the allelochemical inhibited colony formation and growth of the fungus. The in vivo test revealed that larval growth and developmental time were affected by α-tomatine andN. rileyi. Detrimental effects on pupal development were observed in larvae fed diet containing α-tomatine and also treated withN. rileyi (LC90). The fungus was detected in the hemolymph and tissue of larvae treated with two lethal concentrations (LC50 and LC90) ofN. rileyi, including those fed α-tomatine. At the LC50, α-tomatine protected larvae againstN. rileyi and increased survivorship; at the LC90, it inhibited the development ofN. rileyi, thereby reducing production of conidia. Thus, the allelochemical α-tomatine retains its antifungal qualities beyond the second trophic level, inhibiting the development ofN. rileyi inH. zea.

Notes: Abstract With high-resolution inelastic electron scattering measurements on46Ti and48Ti the excitation mechanism of the transition into low lying Jπ=1+ states is investigated. The experimental evidence of considerable contribution of the orbital part of theM1 operator to the total transition strength is given by a model dependent analysis of form factors. The possibility of physical relationship to low lying Jπ=1+ states in the rare earth nuclei is discussed in various models. MoreoverE2 form factors and good candidates forM3 form factors are presented.

Notes: Abstract A set of phenomenological wave functions has been derived to describe the14N ground state and the isospin triplet consisting of the14C ground state, the first excited state of14N at 2.313 MeV and the14O ground state. Elastic and inelastic electron scattering form factors, the magnetic moment of the14N ground state and the shape factors in theβ ± decay have been employed in a multiparameter fitting procedure to determine the amplitudes of the wave functions inL-S coupling. The inclusion of the beta decay observables in the fit has become possible for the first time since exact formulas for the shape factor in higher order do exist. The set of wave functions deduced exhibit predominately anL=0 contribution for the 0+; 1 states andL=1 and 2 contributions of nearly equal weight for the 1+; 0 state. It was observed that the inclusion of the shape factors allowed a more stringent determination of the amplitudes compared to previous attempts reported in the literature and led in the case of the 0+; 1 states to wave functions that show a small but noticeable difference within the isospin triplet. Besides the observables used for the fit, the radiative widthΓ γ (M1) of the 2.313 MeV state in14N can be described quite well with the derived wave functions, and in addition it has become possible to predict the pathological largeft − value of the14C decay and theft + value of the14O decay precisely. The wave functions are also applied to calculate the14N(γ,π +) cross section.

Notes: Abstract Description of a computerized, automated method to measure the interfacial polarization immittance of a Pt electrode in nonlinear range is presented. The classical three-electrode setup is used for measurements in conjunction with a special purpose software implemented on a Unix computer using C language. A collection of data at very low frequencies (below 2 Hz) and at high input intensities with various dc biases imposed on the input are presented to show the behavior of the interface in nonlinear range. The instrument also provides on-line harmonic analysis of the output signal, by calculating the first four Fourier series coefficients, in response to a pure sinusoidal input.

Notes: Heterocyclic Substituted Arenediazonium Salts with a Long-wave-length Range of Sensitivity. II. 4-(1-Heterocycliden-2,3-diaza-prop-2-en-3-yl)-arenediazonium tetrafluoroboratesThe title compounds (3) are obtained by reaction of aromatic bis-diazonium salts with substituted 2-benzylidene-1,3-dithioles and 2-benzylidene-1,3-diselenole, respectively. The maximum of the long wave-length absorption band of 3 varies from 580 nm up to 665 nm depending on the structure of the compound. The quantum yields of the photolysis of the diazonium salts 3 are low (1 · 10-4 to 7 · 10-3). The azo dyes obtained from 3 with usual azo-couplers absorb in a shorter wave-length range than the corresponding diazonium salts themselves (hypso-coupling effect).

Notes: Lewis-acid and Photochemically Induced Dimroth Rearrangement of 3H,6H-2,5-Bis-(p-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl) -1,2-thiazolino[5,4-d]1,2-thiazoline-3,6-dithioneThe reaction of 3H,6H-1,2-dithiolo[4,3-c]1,2-dithiole-3,6-dithione (5) with N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylendiamin gives, depending on the conditions of the reaction, 3H,6H-3-(p-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl-imino)-1,2-dithiolo[4,3-c]1,2-dithiole-6-thione (7), and 3H,6H-2,5-Bis-(p-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl) -1,2-thiazolino[5,4-d]1,2-thiazoline-3,6-dithione (3d). Catalyzed by Lewis acids the compound 3d rearranges reversibly into the isomeric 3H,6H-3,6-bis-(p-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl-imino) -1,2-dithiolo[4,3-c]1,2-dithiole (4d). The Dimroth type rearrangement of 3d into 4d occurs also on irradiation.
