Summary Depending upon particle size, shape and consistency typical differences are caused, both in the percentages of the boundary impulses, which are known to be overvalued, and also in the mean overvaluation of particules, that pass near the border of the measuring-aperture. a) Particles, that are large in relation to the measuring-aperture and which pass near the border of the aperture, move, asTom previously mentioned [7], only with a part of their volume through the denser boundary of the electrical field. This causes by means of a smaller overvaluation a smaller curve skewness to the right. b) Erythrocytes, fixated with a biconcave shape, are more over-estimated—because of this shape—near the border of the measuring-aperture, in comparison with round fixated erythrocytes. The curve-distorsion to the right changes accordingly. Biconcave-fixated erythrocytes are able to turn near the border of the outlet and so produce three-peaked impulses. c) Native, biconcave erythrocytes show—because of their exceptional elasticity—in the dense electrical field near the border of the measuring-outlet, the highest false volue. They produce in the border electrical field multiple impulses with two or more peaks, which can be explained due to the deformability of these cells. d) When during a reading, lysolecithin is used to produce sphering of native, biconcave erythrocytes, the impulse picture is changed and with it the curve-distorsion to the right, in a typical way. The results show good agreement with these of round fixated erythrocytes. Therefor the influence of the turning or deforming particles in the measuring-aperture can be shown.
Notes:
