Summary The xeroradiographic method is a new X-ray technique, offering many advantages in general dentistry and orthodontic practice and research. Especially as cephalographs, xeroradiograms show clear and sharp outlines of all the different structures such as bones, tonque, pharynx, and skin. This new method is more accurate in planning surgical operations and in cephalometric analysis. Xeroradiography uses aluminium plates with a thin layer of selenium instead of the conventional X-ray film. Normal X-ray apparatus can be used. It needs an automatic apparatus for charging the selenium layer and for developing the xeroradiographic pictures. In contrast to the conventional X-ray film method, xeroradiography is not based on aphotochemical but on anelectrophysical process.
