Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Summary In a clinical study it was investigated whether whole-body hyperthermia (WBH), as induced by an extracorporeal circuit with a core temperature of 41.8 °C, represents an acceptable pattern of therapy for tumor patients. WBH results in the doubling of respiration. Oxygen consumption and oxygen supply rise about 80%. The intrapulmonary right-to-left shunt climbs to values exceeding 26%. The changes in cardiocirculatory parameters are mainly an increase in cardiac output of more than 200% and a drop in peripheral resistance of 50%. Heart rate and stroke volume rise correspondingly. Pulmonary resistance declines only for a short while.
