    Notes: Abstract: Dendritic cells seem to be of major importance for the pathogenesis of psoriasis. They are increased in number in lesional psoriatic skin which is thought to be due to an increased influx from the peripheral blood regulated by chemotaxins. Using a biological/biochemical approach we have addressed the question whether psoriasis scale extracts contain proteinaceous chemotaxins for dendritic cells. Human monocytes differentiated into dendritic cells by culture with GM-CSF and IL-4 (MoDC) served as responder cells. Chemotactic activity for MoDC was purified by several HPLC-steps. The results of our study show that C5a/C5adesarg is the major chemotactic peptide for MoDC in psoriasis scale extracts. In comparison to other stimuli such as fMLP or monocyte chemotactic peptide 1 (MCP-1) C5a proved to be a most potent and efficient chemotaxin for MoDC. C5a co-eluted with MRP14/calgranulin B which is present in large amounts in psoriasis scale extracts as identified by amino acid sequencing. However, MRP14/calgranulin B did not possess any chemotactic activity for MoDC. Our results provide evidence that C5a/C5adesarg although not specific for dendritic cells seems to be the major chemoattractant for these cells in lesional psoriasis skin.

    Notes: Abstract. The nonlinear optical (local) response of a dense collection of two-level atoms embedded in a linear dielectric medium is investigated theoretically. The nonlinear response of absorption and dispersion of two-level atoms associated with a weak probe field in the presence of a strong pump field is calculated in terms of the linear response theory. The numerical results show that the absorption and dispersion spectra are different from those in vacua because of the local-field effect enhancement and the local cooperative effect.

    Notes: The recrystallization of a Zr-2Hf alloy sheet deformed by plane strain compression atroom temperature and then heat treated in the temperature range 500-650°C is studied. The microstructure, local and global crystallographic textures are investigated by EBSD and X-ray techniques. The as-deformed condition exhibits a heterogeneous microstructure composed of highly and less deformed zones, the EBSD indexing of the latter ones being more reliable. The asdeformed condition displays a (0001) 〈 0 1 10 〉 crystallographic texture. The evolution of themicrostructure during recrystallization very much depends on the amount of local deformation. Recrystallization begins in highly deformed zones, new grains having two variants of texture components, {0001} 〈 0 1 10 〉 and {0001} 〈 0 2 11 〉. Some change of preferred orientations concomitant with grain growth at 600 and 650°C has been observed with a decrease in the {0001} 〈 0 1 10 〉 component and an increase in the {0001} 〈 0 2 11 〉 component

    Notes: The evolution of crystallographic texture in a Zr-2Hf alloy has been investigated duringdeformation, primary recrystallisation and normal grain growth. The as-deformed states (50-90%deformation) are characterized by a major tilted {0001}〈1010〉 texture component and thiscomponent is reinforced with increasing deformation. A decrease in the intensity of the tilted{0001}〈10 10〉 component and a continuous increase in the intensity of the tilted {0001}〈1120 〉component take place during primary recrystallisation. Normal grain growth is associated with thecoarsening of grains with the {0001}〈1120 〉 orientation. This texture evolution is interpreted onthe basis of the evaluation of the stored energy and the consideration of specific grain boundarieswith low energy and/or high mobility

    Notes: 4H SiC high power photoconductive semiconductor switching devices were fabricated. Ahighly doped n+-GaN subcontact epilayer was grown on SiC by organometallic vapor phase epitaxyin order to improve ohmic contact and avoid contact damage or degradation due to currentfilamentation, under high power operation. With an n+-GaN subcontact layer, the contact resistancewas reduced and current crowding alleviated. Therefore the electrodes were not damaged ordegraded at high power operation. Photocurrent up to 200 A and breakdown voltage up to 2900 Vhave been observed for the devices

    Notes: Heteroepitaxial n-ZnO films have been grown on commercial p-type 6H-SiC substratesby plasma-assisted molecular-beam epitaxy, and n-ZnO/p-SiC heterojunction mesa structures havebeen fabricated and their photoresponse properties have been studied. Current-voltagecharacteristics of the structures had a very good rectifying diode-like behavior with a leakagecurrent less than 2 x 10-4 A/cm2 at -10 V, a breakdown voltage greater than 20 V, a forward turn onvoltage of ∼5 V, and a forward current of ∼2 A/cm2 at 8 V. Photosensitivity of the diodes, whenilluminated from ZnO side, was studied at room temperature and photoresponsivity of as high as0.045 A/W at -7.5 V reverse bias was observed for photon energies higher than 3.0 eV

    Notes: Nucleation and normal or abnormal grain growth of new grains have been observed inseveral metals and alloys during annealing after various levels of strain (from few percents forabnormal grain growth in steel and aluminium to 90 % strain for static recrystallization of highlydeformed copper, zirconium and steel). For each of these cases, the links between the initialdeformation state of the polycristalline samples and their final textures after annealing are analyzedin some details, by taking into acount the distribution of orientations and misorientations within thesamples, as well as the repartition of stored energy . With the help of polycristalline models for thesimulation of deformation and recrystallization processes, some general conclusions regarding thenucleation and growth processes are finally drawn

    Notes: The influence of processing parameters on the morphology of hydrothermally derivedBaTiO3 powders was investigated. Layered H2Ti3O7 with plank-like morphology were used as theTi-precursor materials. The BaTiO3 powders were characterized by XRD and SEM. Lower Ba/Tiratio is benefit for preparation of BaTiO3 particles which retains the morphology of the precursor. TheBaTiO3 particles obtained at 200°C for 24h were large, uniform, and plank-like particles. Extendingthe hydrothermal temperature or the hydrothermal time does not help to synthesize BaTiO3 powdersof large size and uniform morphology

    Notes: Abstract Ti-Al-Cu series burn-resistant alloys are newly developed materials which have low density, low cost and are easy to process. The results show that Ti-Al-Cu alloys have good burn resistance due to their good thermal conductivity, low melting point, and the existence of Ti2Cu phase which also has a very low melting point. Ti-Al-Cu alloys have excellent thermal processability and good room and high temperature tensile properties, but an increase in copper content harms their thermal stability. After thermal exposure for a long time, Ti2Cu phase will coalesce and coarsen, but the addition of Si and Al will be useful for their thermal stability. The Ti-13Cu-1Al-0.2Si alloy has good thermal stability at 540°C and good creep resistance at 300°C and 100 MPa. The phases of Ti-Al-Cu alloys were found to be composed of α phase and Ti2Cu. The character of the Ti2Cu phase changes with the increasing copper content.

    Notes: Abstract. For two coupled identical quantum dots in a two-mode cavity, we determine the conditions of two-photon and single-photon resonance. It is shown that the exciton-phonon interaction reduces the Rabi frequencies of each model and the Förster interaction between double quantum dots even at absolute zero temperature. The exciton-phonon interaction also makes a contribution to the static exciton-exciton dipole interaction energy. Furthermore, the additional interactions can modify the conditions of photon resonance significantly. A more realistic case of two nonidentical quantum dots is also considered. The influence of parameter misfits on the quantum system is discussed.
