Notes: The repulsive guidance molecule (RGM) is involved in the formation of the central nervous system (CNS) during development by modulating guidance of growing axons. However, a role of RGM in CNS injury remains to be established. We studied the expression of RGM in the spinal cord of rats with spinal cord injury (SCI). After SCI, RGM+ cells accumulated in lesions and peri-lesional areas. During the first days after SCI, RGM expression was confined to neurons, ballooned neurite fibers/retraction bulbs, smooth muscle/endothelial cells, and to leucocytes infiltrating the lesion. Lesional RGM expression was frequently confined to hypertrophic β-APP+ and RhoA+ neurites/retraction bulbs. With maturation of the lesion, we observed RGM expression by components of the developing scar tissue (cicatrix), such as fibroblastoid cells, reactive astrocytes and in addition a pronounced extracellular RGM deposition resembling neo-laminae. Frequent RGM+, RhoA+ coexpression by lesional retraction bulbs represent first preliminary evidence of RGM to exert growth inhibitory effects by the second messenger system RhoA. To date, RGM is one of the most potent axonal growth inhibitors identified and present in axonal growth impediments (i) oligodendrocytes; (ii) the plexus choroideus and (iii) components of the developing scar.

Notes: Abstract This paper reports observations on 6 new patients with the Dubowitz syndrome which was first defined by Grosse et al., in 1971 and which is a recessively inherited, pleiotropic malformation syndrome including variable degrees of intrauterine growth retardation and primordial shortness of stature, microcephaly, mental retardation, eczema, and a characteristic appearance, voice and combination of minor anomalies. Data in the present report show that eczema can be absent, and patients can be of normal height, and of normal intelligence in spite of a head circumference which has so far always fallen below the third percentile. So far 11 patients (8 females and 3 males) are known with the Dubowitz syndrome; in one family the parents were first cousins.

Notes: Abstract We show that the Regge residue functiony(s) is particularly well suited for performing unitarity bootstrap calculations. The reason is that firstlyy(s) has only one, viz. the right hand, cut along which its value can be evaluated from direct channel unitarity using a parameterfree representation for the partial wave amplitudeS(l, s). Secondly its values for negative real argument follow directly from large-energy scattering with the exchange of one Regge pole in the crossed channel. These values can be evaluated from the sameS(l, s) representation by partial wave sums. Then all one needs for a bootstrap system is an analytic connection of these 2 different pieces of information. We show that this can be achieved by logarithmic dispersion relations. This bootstrap system is supposed to compete favorably with the old unitaryN/D calculations. We finally also propose a new parameter free representation ofS(l, s) which applies equally well as that of Cheng. One main result is that Im α(s) has to decrease exponentially for larges.

Notes: Abstract The unitary Cheng representation for partial wave amplitudes in terms of Reggetrajectories is used to derive a new unitary representation for the residue functionβ(s), which allows to evaluateβ(s) for all values ofs, especially for negative values. The discussion of both representations gives three different arguments that Imα(s) has to decrease exponentially ass increases. The new formula also allows to establish a unitary bootstrap system forβ(s) and Imα(s).

Notes: Acrylic polymers with hydrophilic groups (i.e., ethyl hydroxyl) may be prepared that convert to a soft elastic gel by absorbing water. Such a polymer has been applied to dentistry for use as an elastic lining material for dentures. A commercial product, Hydron, was used in this study. The linear expansion of this material after 520 hr of water immersion was found to be 20.4%. Hardness was found to decrease from 15.7 KHN for the dry polymer to 1.5 KHN at 19% absorbed water content. The swelling pressure was measured and found to reach a maximum value of 157 psi after 204 hr of water immersion. The Young's modulus was found to decrease from a value of 295,300 psi to 290 psi with 19% absorbed water content. Values were determined on intermediate water contents for the properties studied.

Description / Table of Contents: 2,3-Bis(diphenylphosphino)maleic Anhydride and Diphenylphosphino Derivatives of Cyclobutenedione as Ligands in Metal Carbonyls2,3-Bis(diphenylphosphino)maleic anhydride is prepared from 2,3-dichloromaleic anhydride and diphenyl(trimethylsilyl)phosphine. With this compound as a bidentate ligand the complexes Ni(CO)2L and M(CO)4L (M=Cr, Mo, W) are obtained. These are stable and deeply coloured, dut to an absorption band in the region of 17500 cm-1 which shows a strong solvatochromic effect. With 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)cyclobutenedione as ligand L only the complex Ni(CO)2L could be prepared, with immediately decomposes at ligand forms stable complexes of the type M(CO)5L (M=Cr, Mo).

Description / Table of Contents: The Coordination of Boron in triptych-Boroxazolidine (Triethanolamine Borate) and its Addition Compound with Antimony PentachlorideAdditional spectroscopic measurements of B(OC2H4)3N (1) and of the newly prepared 1 : 1-adduct with antimony pentachloride confirm a pyramidal O3B—N-structure for 1 and a trigonal-planar BO3-structure for the adduct. The thermal decomposition of 1 yields B2O3 and some derivatives of morpholine.
