Notes: We present an 84-year-old Caucasian man (Fitzpatrick classification: skin type II) with microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) on his left cheek and a 15-year history of recurrent squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the head, treated with numerous surgical interventions and multiple palliative 60-Gy radiation therapy. In 1996, the patient developed a nontender, indurated, irregularly marked, erythematous lesion on his left cheek (1.5 × 1 cm). Furthermore, the patient suffered from radiodermatitis due to previous radiotherapy ( 〈link href="#f2-1"〉Fig. 1). Punch biopsy and a subsequent wedge excision showed features of both SCC and eccrine carcinoma. Histopathologic and immunohistochemical tests of the tumor revealed a diagnosis of MAC. The patient underwent Mohs' micrographically controlled surgery to obtain tumor-free peripheral soft tissue margins. There was no evidence of any lymphatic invasion or distant metastasis in the physical and laboratory examination. So far, the patient has not developed any recurrences.〈figure xml:id="f2-1"〉1〈mediaResource alt="image" href="urn:x-wiley:00119059:IJD841-2:IJD_841_f2-1"/〉Clinical picture of MAC showing features of radiodermatitisFollowing excision, the biopsy specimen (4 × 2.6 × 1 cm) was fixed in Dubosq-Brazil and routinely processed for staining with hematoxylin and eosin. The neoplasm extended into the subcutaneous tissue with rare connection to the overlying epidermis ( 〈link href="#f2-2"〉Fig. 2). Follicular cysts with amorphous eosinophilic keratin and comma-like tails of aggregates of epithelial cells were a prominent feature ( 〈link href="#f2-3"〉Fig. 3). Perineural invasion was evident, but there were only a very few mitotic figures. Immunohistochemistry on paraffin-embedded tissue blocks was performed, showing strong labeling on dilated ducts for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) in the lumina of tumor cells, and positive staining for anticytokeratin KL1 (55–57 kDa) and S-100 protein. The latter was negative in ductal structures, but stained dendritic cells.〈figure xml:id="f2-2"〉2〈mediaResource alt="image" href="urn:x-wiley:00119059:IJD841-2:IJD_841_f2-2"/〉Panoramic view of the tumor demonstrating poorly circumscribed and deeply infiltrative growth patterns. Notes: Abstract. Using 1985–99 data from the German Socio-Economic Panel Study (GSOEP) we confirm the hypothesis that existing computer wage premiums are determined by ability or other unobserved individual characteristics rather than by productivity effects. In addition to the conventional longitudinal regression analysis, the two competing hypotheses were tested by employing future PC variables in the wage regressions in order to obtain a further control for worker heterogeneity. The finding that future PC variables have a statistically significant effect on current wages leads us to conclude that computer wage differentials can be attributed to worker heterogeneity rather than to computer-induced productivity.

Notes: [Auszug] To characterise the active components, micromolecular FDPs were separated on Sephadex G-25. All preparations revealed four peaks (1, 2, 3 and 4), the first appearing with the void volume (Fig. 2). Peaks were reduced to the initial volume of the sample and tested in the lymphocyte culture. A marked ...

Notes: The two sulfido-bridged dirhenium complexes bis(μ-4-methoxyphenylsulfido-S)bis(tetracarbonylrhenium), [Re2(C7H7OS)2(CO)8], and bis(μ-naphthylsulfido-S)bis[tricarbonyl(dicyclohexylphosphane)rhenium], [Re2(C12H23P)2(C10H7S)2(CO)6], show different geometries of the common Re2S2 core. The 4-methoxyphenyl derivative has crystallographic \overline 1 symmetry and the naphthyl derivative has C2 symmetry. This results from intramolecular repulsion due to different substitution patterns at the Re and S atoms.

Notes: Abstract We study the matrices, reduced matrices and algebras associated to the systems SAℒT of structural annotated logics. In previous papers, these systems were proven algebraizable in the finitary case and the class of matrices analyzed here was proven to be a matrix semantics for them. We prove that the equivalent algebraic semantics associated with the systems SAℒT are proper quasivarieties, we describe the reduced matrices, the subdirectly irreducible algebras and we give a general decomposition theorem. As a consequence we obtain a decision procedure for these logics.

Notes: Summary The effect of propriety disinfectants on the function of the guinea pig cochlea has been investigated by continuous derivation of compound action potentials and cochlear microphonics during and 8 days after intratympanic application. While ethylalcohol appears to be inappropriate for the treatment of inflammations of the tympanic cavity mucous membranes due to its local ototoxicity, other commonly used chemotherapeutics (boric acid, povidoneiodine, dequaliniumchloride) seem to have no adverse effects on the inner ear.

Notes: Summary Clinical data of 48 patients with centrocytic, 83 patients with centroblastic/centrocytic and 64 patients with centroblastic lymphoma who had entered a prospective multicenter study of the Kiel Lymphoma Study Group since October 1975 were compared. Advanced (stage IV) disease at time of diagnosis, predominantly due to bone marrow infiltration, was most frequent in centrocytic (69% of patients) and in centroblastic/centrocytic (51% of patients) lymphomas as compared to only 28% of patients with centroblastic lymphoma. High survival probability of patients with localized centrocytic and centroblastic/centrocytic lymphomas after radiotherapy, contrasting with a worse prognosis of corresponding patients with centroblastic lymphoma, is compatible with the classification of these lymphoma entities as neoplasias of low-grade malignancy. However, as shown by this prospective and previous retrospective trials overall survival probability of patients with advanced centrocytic lymphoma was inferior to that observed in corresponding patients with centroblastic/centrocytic lymphoma. These findings suggest the possibility that patients with advanced centrocytic lymphoma occupy an intermediate position between typical low-grade and typical high-grade malignant non-Hodgkin lymphomas.
