Notes: A method for measuring magnetization under high pressure and pulsed high magnetic field was developed for a Drickamer-type cell using diamond anvils and an insulator gasket. As the first test, the magnetization of invar alloy Fe0.65Ni0.35 was measured at room temperature up to 8 GPa in a pulsed field of 10 T with a width of 4 ms. The magnetization decreased with increasing pressure, indicating a transition to a paramagnetic state at 5–6 GPa, in accordance with the results of previous experiments using conventional methods such as ac susceptibility measurement. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract Microstructures of high-Tc Bi-based superconductors in a disk form and a tape form sheathed by Ag are examined by SEM and TEM. The disk specimens were prepared by the sol-gel method and are compact with few cavities. Bi-2212 or Bi-2223 grains grow with short heating times leading to rapid increases in magnetization. However, magnetization drops with further heating due to the formation of 2201 areas in the 2212 matrix or 2212 areas in the 2223 matrix together with the amorphization within the matrix. In the tape specimens prepared by conventional powder processing methods, thin plate-like grains grow large with some cavities among them. The Jc increases together with the grain growth and then drops slowly as the amorphization of the grains occurs.

Notes: Summary The high-performance liquid chromatography of fourteen rhenium complexes with phosphorus and 2,2′-bipyridine-derivative ligands has been examined. Good separation between these complexes was achieved by use of an ODS column with a 60∶40 (v/v) mixture of MeOH and KH2PO4-NaOH buffer as mobile phase. Linear correlations were observed between the capacity factors of the mono-phosphorus complexes and Fujita's organicity/inorganicity ratios for the phosphorus ligands, revealing that Fujita's organicity/inorganicity parameters are useful for evaluating of the retention behavior of these complexes.
