Notes:
Summary A non-linear fracture mechanics model, the Fictitious Crack Model (FCM), is utilised for a theoretical study of the Compact Tension (CT) specimen. The complete stress-displacement curve for the material is used in the FCM, even the descending branch after maximum stress. The analysis shows that the computed load-displacement curve is sensitive to modulus of elasticity perpendicular to the grain, tensile strength and fracture energy. The theoretically obtained results agree well with experimentally determined curves.
