Notes: Abstract The effect of random phase ground state correlations on charge densities and elastic electron scattering cross sections is studied for208Pb and40Ca. Modifications of the charge densities relative to densities obtained by Hartree-Fock calculations with a density dependent force are studied using different RPA wave functions. The differences with respect to the HF charge distributions are discussed.

Notes: Summary Lysine added to a defined medium at a concentration of 1 mg/ml enhances the capacity of Cephalosporium acremonium to produce cephalosporin C. The lysine effect was accompanied by a delayed differentiation to arthrospores followed by more extensive mycelial fragmentation. Higher lysine concentrations reduced the synthesis of cephalosporin C. The effect of lysine on cephalosporin C synthesis was not strain related and was not elicited by the other amino acids tested. Both lysine stimulation and inhibition were evidenct using resting cells. The lysine inhibition of cephalosporin C synthesis with resting cells was relieved by supplementing the medium with 1 to 2 mg/ml α-aminoadipic acid. This reversal supports the hypothesis that lysine restricts the availability of α-aminoadipic acid for β-lactam biosynthesis.

Notes: Abstract Enzymes of polyol metabolism were studied in basidiospore germination of Schizophyllum commune during periods of in vivo arabitol and mannitol pool depletion (growth on glucose-asparagine) and during their subsequent synthesis (growth on acetate-NH 4 + ). Optimal conditions for assays were established and specific activities of enzymes employing d-arabitol, d-mannitol, d-ribulose, d-fructose and d-xylulose as substrates were traced. Inquiries into the products formed during these reactions showed that d-ribulose generated arabitol while d-fructose produced mannitol with d-xylulose giving rise to xylitol. The dehydrogenase reactions were further investigated using polyacrylamide disc gel electrophoresis. Here was revealed the existence of at least two separate enzymatic activities pertaining to the catabolism of arabitol and mannitol. Also noted were the electrophoretic patterns when d-sorbitol, ribitol, xylitol and ethanol were used as substrates.

Notes: Abstract The range of theN¯N interaction is re-examined. We find that differences in theN¯N models do have an influence on the region where annihilation predominantly takes place. AN¯N model derived consistently within meson theory leads to an annihilation range around 1 fm in spite of the small Compton wavelength of the exchanged baryons usually advocated in range arguments.

Notes: Abstract The charge density differences between208Pb and206Pb as well as between206Pb and205Tl have been calculated within the generalized theory of finite Fermi systems. Here one describes206Pb and205Tl as correlated two-neutron hole states and two-neutron hole one-proton hole states in208Pb, respectively. We discuss the spectroscopic strength of the 3s-hole and argue that the remaining difference between the theoretical and experimental charge distributions may be connected with the range of validity of Landau's quasi particle concept.

Notes: Abstract We study the influence of the nuclear polarizability on isomer shifts. For the quadrupole contribution, we can compare our numerical results to previous investigations of Reiner and Wilets. The agreement is quite good. The polarization contribution to the isomer shift is directly proportional to the non-energy weighted sum ofB (E λ)-@#@ values from the ground and isomer states respectively. Although the absolute effects are quite large, there tends to be a cancellation effect for the differences between the two states. This is illustrated, albeit rather crudely, by two different model calculations. Since the polarization effect is, like the volume effect, directly proportional to the electron density at the nucleus, the extraction ofΔ ψ(0)2-values from isomer shift measurements remains unaffected. The nuclear parameter, however, contains in general a polarization contribution.

Notes: Abstract A derivation of the vibrational mass-parameterB is given which makes the consistency with RPA calculations explicit. The expected enhancement by the residual particle-hole and particle-particle interaction is demonstrated by solving the quasiparticle-RPA for deformed nuclei in the rare earth region.
