Notes: There is little systematic survey evidence so far on the attitudes and beliefs of those involved with new technology in small batch manufacturing. Here the authors present findings on the responses of management, trade unions and employees in an Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) work environment.

Notes: Using the method of Doppler-free double resonance polarization spectroscopy transitions from selectively pumped levels (v', J') of the D1Σ+u state down to levels (v‘, J‘) of the X 1Σ+g state with v‘= 0–140 have been measured with high accuracy. A long range analysis, based on 21 outer turning points of the IPA potential with v‘=110-130 and on calculated exchange energies and second order van der Waals coefficients Cn with n=6, 8, 10, and 12 leads to a dissociation energy De =3649.5±0.8 cm−1 (0.452 49 eV). The influence of the third order C11 contribution and the hyperfine structure on the correct value of De are briefly discussed.

Notes: Intense stimulated emission in the 119 to 149 nm region is observed from HD excited by two quanta at 193 nm. For certain transitions, the conversion efficiency approaches 1% so that peak powers of ∼10 MW are produced. Electron collisions with the HD (E,F) level are found to efficiently transfer population to the HD(C) state which produces stimulated emission on several C → X Werner band lines in the vicinity of 120 nm. The data on the pressure dependence of the stimulated signals strongly support the conclusion that, in comparison to H2, HD exhibits a large isotopic dependence on the cross section for rotationally inelastic electron collisions in electronically excited states. The rate constant for this rotationally inelastic process is estimated as ∼2×10−7 cm3/s. This is the first observation of an isotopically sensitive electron collisional process involving an electronically excited level.

Notes: Zusammenfassung 1.

Notes: Summary In order to test the hypothesis that peripheral benzodiazepine binding sites mediate some direct effects of benzodiazepines on striated muscles, the properties of specific3H-Ro 5-4864 binding to rat biceps and rat diaphragm homogenates were investigated. In both tissues a single population of sites was found with a KD value of 3 nmol/1. The density of these sites in both muscles was higher than the density in rat brain, but was considerably lower than in rat kidney. Competition experiments indicate a substrate specificity of specific3H-Ro 5-4864 binding similar to the properties already demonstrated for the specific binding of this ligand to peripheral benzodiazepine binding sites in many other tissues. The properties of these sites in the rat diaphragm are not changed after motoric denervation by phrenicectomy. It is concluded that peripheral benzodiazepine binding sites are not involved in direct effects of benzodiazepines on striated muscles.

Notes: Summary Specific binding of the muscarinic antagonist3H-QNB can be demonstrated on human erythrocyte membranes. Specific3H-QNB binding is stereospecific and can be inhibited by a variety of cholinergic agonists and antagonist with affinities similar to their affinities for muscarinic cholinergic receptor binding in other tissues. Accordingly, the data indicate the presence of muscarinic cholinergic receptors on human erythrocyte membranes. Their density is very low, varies between healthy persons, but seems to be an individual characteristic. The data reported are consistent with the assumption that the muscarinic cholinergic receptors on human erythrocyte membranes are mainly of the M1 receptor subtype.

Notes: Abstract Skeletal isomerization reactions, of hexanes (2-methylpentane and methylcyclopentane) have been carried out in a flow reactor on a polycrystalline intermetallic Pt3Ti compound which has been powdered and treated under several oxidative and reductive conditions. The results are compared to those obtained with (i) TiO2 supported Pt catalysts in or not in the Strong Metal-Support Interaction (SMSI) state, (ii) a bulk Pt3Ti sample studied under static catalytic conditions in an U.H.V. apparatus, and (iii) bulk Pt surfaces. The powdered Pt3Ti compound shows a very unstable behaviour under hydrogen. Differences in behaviour between the bulk and the decomposed powdered Pt3Ti samples are observed, showing the important part played by Pt3Ti in SMSI phenomena. A model is then proposed.
