Description / Table of Contents:
Phosphate coatings as an aid to non-cutting cold-working of iron and steelBecause of their good adhesion to an iron base, and because of their ability of retaining lubricants even at high pressures, phosphate coatings are excellent aids to non-cutting cold -working of objects made of iron or steel. The author discusses the properties of the phosphate coating required, the characteristics of the composition of the steel, of the steel pretreatment, of the lubricants, etc. on the cold-working process. Mention is also made of the most important applications for the cold-drawing of wires and tubes extrusion moulding, deep-drawing, the production of screws, bolts, rivets, sewing needles, etc. Referance is also made to the way in which the phosphate coatings act. In conclusion, the advantages of the phosphate coatings in connection with the cold-working technique are summarised.
Notes:
