Notes: : Penile involvement was seen in 19.5% of 261 patients, aged 11 to 30 years, with tinea cruris. It was more common in patients under the age of (20 years (p 〈 0.05). The increased incidence is probably related to the use of langota. a semiocclusive undergarment that may favor the growth of dermatophytes.

Notes: Abstract: Male albino rats were exposed to manganese through drinking solution containing MnCl2·4H2O (1 mg/ml) in water. The contents of catecholamines, homovanillic acid, manganese and the activity of monoamine oxidase (MAO) were measured in the corpus striatum at different time intervals up to a period of 360 days. The contents of tyrosine in the corpus striatum and serum were also estimated. Manganese treatment produced an initial increase in the contents of dopamine (DA), norepinephrine (NE), homovanillic acid (H VA) and tyrosine in the corpus striatum. This was followed by a period when concentrations were almost normal (dopamine from 120 to 240 days, norepinephrine at 180 and 240 days and homovanillic acid at 240 days after manganese administration). Thereafter the contents of these substrates declined significantly at 300 and 360 days of treatment. However, these alterations were not correlated with the concentrations of manganese in this region, which gradually increased up to 240 days, and thereafter remained constant until the termination of the experiment. The underlying biochemical mechanisms of manganese-induced sequential changes in the striatal contents of catecholamines have been discussed in relation to the development of psychiatric and neurological phases of manganese poisoning.

Notes: Summary Infection with potato virus X (PVX) increased the total nitrogen and non-protein nitrogen contents of Katahdin tubers. Protein nitrogen remained unchanged, but a 22% increase in free amino acid content accompanied infection. No differences were observed in the number or composition of protein fractions in infected tubers.

Notes: Summary Starvation resulted in a regular and continuous decrease in the serum acid phosphatase levels of the freshwater catfishClarias batrachus. The levels were found to be inversely proportional to the length of starvation. A maximal loss of 80.6% was noted at the end of the 5th month of starvation.

Notes: Summary The weighted least square estimates of gene effects (Hayman 1958) were estimated using 7 generations of the cross ‘BG 25’בNP 21’ and ‘BH 15’× ‘RD 103’, and 11 generations of the cross ‘C 164’× ‘EB 1556’. The joint scaling test of Cavalli (1952) indicated the failure of a simple additive — dominance model in majority of the cases. The variability of the characters studied could not be explained by the 6- parameter model in cross ‘C 164’×’EB 1556’, but it could explain the majority of characters in the crosses ‘BG 25’בNP 21’ and ‘BH 15’בRD 103’. The grains per ear in ‘BG 25’בNP 21’ exhibited differential response of generation means to a change in the environment due, perhaps. to the more pronounced expression of additive gene action in saline-alkali soil. Among the components of epistasis, additive X additive and dominance X dominance types of epistasis were important in ‘BG 25’בNP 21’, while dominance X dominance type of epistasis was important in the crosses ‘C 164’× ‘EB 1556’ and ‘BH 15’בRD 103’. The cross ‘BH 15’× ‘RD 103’ appeared to be the least sensitive to a salinealkali soil condition.

Notes: Abstract The wave-wave interaction of three interacting waves for a nonlinear model equation in a dispersive medium is studied. It is found that the nonlinear effect causes precession of the polarization ellipse as the wave propagates under the resonance condition Ω1 = Ω2 + Ω3 and k1 ≈ k2 + k3. The frequency shifts and the precessional frequencies are obtained under the above resonance conditions. A technique has been developed for the evaluation of self-precession and frequency shifts for circularly polarized waves.

Notes: Summary A constrained maximization problem in a realBanach space is considered, where the objective function is a non-linear pseudo concave functional and constraints are given bym non linear quasi convex functionals. The optimality conditions and converse duality theorem, given byRitter, have been extended to this class of programming problems.

Notes: The pressure versus settlement response is highly non-linear for soils, in general. In the present study, a cubic equation of the type p = K1w - K2w3 is suggested to incorporate the non-linear behaviour. A trapezoidal footing with constant depth resting on a subgrade having non-linear response is analysed. The resulting fourth order non-linear differential equation with variable coefficients is solved by using the Galerkin technique and beam characteristic functions are employed to obtain faster convergence. The results are presented in the form of non-dimensional charts for valid ranges of footings and soil parameters.
