Notes: Abstract A new geometrical formalism is suggested for the non-minimal and alternative minimal supergravities. This formalism connects the constrained superspace formulations with the unconstrained ones and is based on the notion of induced geometry. The relevant mathematical technique is that ofG-structures. A clear-cut geometrical content of the torsion and curvature constraints is revealed on the basis of a general theorem about the necessary and sufficient properties of induced geometry.

Notes: Abstract The supergravity torsion and curvature constraints are shown to be a particular case of constraints arising in a general geometrical situation. For this purpose, a theorem is proved which describes the necessary and sufficient conditions that the given geometry can be realized on a surface as one induced by the geometry of the ambient space. The proof uses the theory of nonlinear partial differential equations in superspace, Spencer cohomologies, etc. This theorem generalizes various theorems, well known in mathematics (e.g., the Gauss—Codazzi theorem), and may be of its own interest.

Notes: Abstract If the action functional is determined uniquely by its symmetry properties, we say that this functional is perfect. We study the perfect functionals in the framework in which the space and field variables are on equal footing. This study leads to the natural multidimensional generalizations of supergravity.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Sprout inhibiting chemicals must be used when potatoes are stored for more than 3 4 months at 8°C. However, tuber metabolism can be regulated and sprout growth inhibited by controlled atmosphere storage. A 3-year study was carried out at the Federal Agricultural Research Station in Changins. In 1978, 5 main table and industrial cultivars grown in Switzerland were tested. The storage atmosphere contained 2% O2 and CO2 concentrations of 1,6 or 12%. The temperature was maintained at 8°C and the relative humidity at 85–90% (Table I). This first experiment showed that the cultivars tested varied widely in their storage characteristics. Losses were greatest with cv. Eba, whereas cv. Bintje appeared to store best (Table 2). In 1979 and 1980 only cv. Bintje grown in different regions was used. Oxygen concentrations were 2,6 or 15% and CO2 concentration was maintained constant at 6%. Temperatures were 8 or 10°C and relative humidity 85 or 95%. Minimum ventilation was maintained throughout the period. Weight losses were 1 3% and losses due to decay 2 12% after 120 178 days of storage (Table 3). Under these conditions, cooking quality was seriously affected because of the marked build-up of sugars, particularly sucrose (Tables 4 and 5). Tuber flesh tended to be more oxidised after cooking (Table 7). The storage conditions also favoured fungal decay caused byFusarium spp. A satisfactory degree of sprout inhibition was obtained. Tubers treated with a sprout inhibiting chemical and stored under normal conditions had better cooking and industrial utilisation qualities than those stored in controlled atmospheres.

Notes: Abstract Charged hadron production ine + e − annihilation is studied in the 7 to 10 GeV CM energy region and at the Υ (9.46) and Υ′ (10.01) resonances with the LENA detector at DORIS. The statistical moments of the charged multiplicities are studied. The data show KNO scaling behaviour and suggest the presence of long range correlations. An average charged multiplicityrise of Δn(Υ)=0.55±0.19 and Δn(Υ′)=1.26±0.29 over the continuum is observed for the Υ and Υ′ direct decays. The jet structure of the Υ and Υ′ direct decays is investigated using the charged particles. The polar angular distributions of the jet axis behave like 1+α(T) cos2θ with 〈α(T)〉Υ=0.7±0.3 and 〈α(T)〉Υ′=0.6±0.4. The 〈α(T)〉Υ value is in agreement with the QCD vector gluon assignment and excludes scalar gluons by more than four standard deviations.

Notes: Abstract A search for the decays γ→ρπ, γ→J/ψX and γ→γa (whereX is undetermined and a is an axion) has been completed using the LENA detector at the DORIS storage ring. No evidence for any of these processes was found. For these decay modes we set branching fraction upper limits (90% C.L.) of 2.1×10−3, 2.0×10−2 and 9.1×10−4, respectively.

Notes: Abstract The rationR=σ(e + e −→hadrons)/σ(e + e −→ µ+ µ−) was measured with the LENA detector at DORIS in a scan between 7.40 and 7.48 GeV and between 8.67 and 9.43 GeV center of mass energies. Corrected for QED radiative effects,R is found to be constant with an average value ofR=3.37 ±0.06stat±0.23syst. No narrow resonances withΓ ee (Γ had/Γ tot)⊗0.30 keV (95% C.L.) and no steps have been observed. Based on this value ofR, revised values for υ(1S) resonance parameters are presented.

Notes: Abstract In the present note we further explore the possibility of measuring the number of $$\bar vv$$ generations by means of $$Z^0 \to \bar vv$$ decays. We investigate in particular the case where the radiative transitionse + e − →γZ 0 are studied on theZ 0 resonance itself. The various background reactions are discussed as well as the statistical significance that can be obtained for an additional $$\bar vv$$ generation.
